Raising Funds for Hammer Out

Raising Funds for Hammer Out
Selena Power from Church Road in Easter Compton will be raising funds for a Thornbury based charity “Hammer Out” which raises awareness of brain tumours. (www.hammerout.co.uk). She hopes to complete a 100 foot high sponsored zip wire at Ashton Court on April 30th. Selena, who can’t climb a ladder said “As a family, we were devastated when my husband Rob was diagnosed in November 2007, so if I can help prevent somebody else entering our nightmare it will be well worth the challenge. I can’t think about how high the zip wire is, as I’m not “very good” with heights! I’m just concentrating on trying to raise as much funds for Hammer Out as possible”.
If you would like to sponsor Selena, you can either donate online through her Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/Selena-Power, or by calling into Lippiatts Store in Easter Compton and leaving a donation in the blue collection tin at the counter. Selena will be joined on her “zip” by Kate Wigmore of Severn Beach and Sue Shaul of Thornbury.

Safer Stronger Communities

South Gloucestershire’s 20 Safer Stronger Community Groups are all about working together to improve your local community. The groups also enable you to have your say about the services that your community needs and receives.
These groups have been set up as part of the South Gloucestershire Council’s Community Engagement initiative and the Neighbourhood Policing Model. Their members include people who live and work in the area and representatives from South Gloucestershire Council, the local Police, Avon Fire & Rescue, Health Authority, the Town & Parish Council and other local organisations. The aim is to:
• work together to ensure that local communities are safe and pleasant places to live, work and play
• give local people a greater voice and influence over local decisions and the priorities of the service providers
• support actions and initiatives that meet local needs
The next meeting for the Severnside Group:
Thursday 3rd March 2011, 7pm
Easter Compton Hall, Black Horse Hill, Easter Compton, BS35 5SJ
